Boondh Resource Toolkit, March 2022

Some stories are difficult to tell, but that’s exactly why they need to be seen. When Boondh set out to document the Status of Menstrual Discrimination in India, the challenge was not just to present data but to make its impact felt. The report speaks of everyday restrictions: being told not to enter a kitchen, being forced to miss school, or being made to feel unclean for something as natural as a period. The art needed to hold these realities with honesty and weight.

The illustrations took on a hand-drawn, textured style, meant to feel personal and immediate, like something scribbled in a notebook or a letter passed between friends. The comic panels weren’t just about documenting discrimination but making it visible in a way that words alone sometimes can’t. They had to capture quiet moments of exclusion, frustration, and resilience—things that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Designing for a project like this is about more than just aesthetics. It’s about creating something that lingers, that makes people pause and reflect. The hope is that these visuals add to the conversation, helping more people understand the impact of menstrual discrimination.
